Airport is located 10 miles north west of
Sacramento, California.
History :
The Sacramento International Airport first opened
on October 21, 1967 as Sacramento Metropolitan
Airport. On June 24, 1988, it became the first
airport on the west coast to host a Concorde,
coinciding with the activation of the airports
second runway. In 1998 with the opening of a new
terminal building, it was renamed Sacramento
International Airport; though it didn't receive its
first international flights until 2002 when Mexicana
initiated nonstop service to Guadalajara. The
airport was officially designated a port of entry on
October 5, 2006.

Area Accident History:On February 18, 2010, at 1840 Pacific standard
time, a Cessna 208B, N892FE, struck a bird while on approach to Sacramento
International Airport, Sacramento, California. West Air, Inc., was operating
the airplane under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 135
as an on-demand cargo flight. The commercial pilot, the sole occupant, was
not injured. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the right wing.
Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and an instrument flight plan was
in effect. The pilot departed from Arcata Airport, Arcata, California, and
was on approach to his destination when the bird strike occurred.
According to the pilot, he was approaching runway 16R. He saw several birds
and at least one struck the right wing, just outboard of the landing light.
Post accident examination revealed that the spar was bent.
